Chocolate Sheet Cake

This recipe is very similar to the White Texas Sheet Cake and it is so easy to make.

Chocolate Texas Sheet Cake

Ingredients:

  • 2 c. flour
  • 2c. sugar
  • 1/2 t. baking soda
  • 1 t. baking powder
  • 1/2 t. salt
  • 1/3 c. unsweetened cocoa
  • 2 sticks butter or margarine
  • 1 c. water
  • 1/2 c. sour cream
  • 2 eggs

Icing:

  • 2 stick butter or margarine
  • 1/4 c. milk
  • 4-1/2 c. powdered sugar
  • 1/2 t. vanilla or almond extract
  • 1 c. walnuts, chopped (optional)
  • 1/3 c. unsweetened cocoa (if you want chocolate icing)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375°.

Grease a 15x10x1 baking pan.

Whisk the first six ingredients together in a large bowl.

Bring the water and butter to a boil, remove from heat.

Stir this into flour mixture.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, sour cream and extract until blended.

Whisk this into the flour mixture until smooth.

Pour into the prepared pan.

Bake 20 – 25 minutes until lightly brown.

Cool on a wire rack 20 minutes.

For icing:

Boil the butter, milk, and cocoa (if using) in a large saucepan, remove from heat.

Stir in powdered sugar and extract.

Fold in walnuts.

Spread over warm cake.
