So earlier this year we did a bit of remodeling in the house… we turned 1 bedroom into 2 smaller ones which has totally changed the ways things function. During the remodel, we made a few small changes to the other bedroom which have also made a big difference in the way their room functions and everything seems to be going very well.
The boys’ room didn’t get a total makeover but it did get a bit of a refresh… I like to ‘try’ things out for a bit before we actually make permanent changes.
Check out my pantry remodel to see what I mean.
We moved the bedroom door over to the middle of the room which is now an extension of the previous hallway. This meant we also had to relocate a light switch but that wasn’t too much trouble. This change allowed the bunk beds to be placed on either side of the door and gave a nice big walkway/play space between the beds.

We also removed the door to the closet as it was barely hanging in there… we put up a curtain and I kind of like not dealing with a door so we are undecided as to whether we will actually put a door back up there or not. We will probably frame it out for a door but just leave it open for the time being.

We got rid of the dressers and added the old closet shelf from the other room to their closet. We used some wire cubbies and color-coded cubby bins to help organize their clothes. The ‘good clothes’ are hung up and their ‘everyday’ clothes are in the bins.

I brought in an old cubby shelf from another room and got some bins to fit so they could organize their toys and other things that they have like fishing boxes and such. This allowed room to keep the old armoire and the keyboard in the room. They also have a nice long path/play space at the foot of the beds.

Under the beds we still have some of the old plastic drawers and some large totes to hold their RC cars and bigger items but everything is much better organized. It also helped that we did a MAJOR PURGE of items and clothing before we put anything back in the room.

The room got a good cleaning and we added a couple of new shower curtains for the window, closet door, and temporary bedroom door. We have the door we just haven’t put it on yet as we need to do a bit of sheetrock work in that room when we get in there to finish it up.
A lot of these things are similar to items we used in the girls’ bedroom makeover if you need links.
Remember that progress is progress and we just need to start somewhere. Things can get overwhelming when they start to pile up so just pick one small task or area to work in and do a little at a time… you’ll get it finished before you know it.
May God Bless You in all you do!
