How We Homeschool: 4-Day Sample Schedule

I thought it might be helpful to show how we go through our lessons for a week here so that you could give it a test run to see what might work for your home and schedule. Some things we do every day while others might have a specific day of the week or they may be done on even/odd days to work with our schedules.

We also try to have a four-day week with one day off for ‘Life Skills’ as there are lots of doctor appointments, errands to run, and sick days around here plus the gardens and animals keep us a little busy at times. I’ve tried to provide as many links as I can for demonstration purposes if you want to give this a test run but for more detailed information you can check out this post:

Our 2025-2026 Homeschool Curriculum, Schedule Plans, Resource Links, and Daily Routine – Tons of FREE resources!

Our Morning Circle includes:

(10) Life Skills Development

We cover this area every day even though it might not all be considered ‘school’. I add things like our Home Cleaning schedule and Laundry Routine to this as reminders as well.

Weekly Routine:

  • Mondays: Weekly Home Blessing
  • Tuesdays: Zone CleaningWe have a binder set up with all of our lists for the different areas
  • Wednesdays: Mini Home Blessing
  • Thursday: Zone Cleaning
  • Friday: Mini Home Blessing

Laundry:

  • Mondays: Mom & Dad
  • Tuesdays: William & Shyanne
  • Wednesdays: Towels & Sheets
  • Thursday: Boys
  • Friday: Girls

Home Ec:

Our school day starts with Morning Circle which includes a couple of other areas because they are just a little more fun and help to get the kids ready for learning. I usually project my laptop screen onto the TV we have in the dining room so that everyone can see what we are working on. This helps keep everything a little less cluttered.

After Morning Circle we move on to our Bible and Character Studies which usually don’t take us very long. From there we start our Language Arts and Math. I will usually start with the older kids so that they can be working on their work while I go over the reading with the younger boys and then I try to work through Shyanne’s Kindergarten work. I usually leave our Prose or Read Aloud for lunchtime.

If they finish before I am ready to start with the next subject they usually take a quick break, walk the dog, swap laundry, or read until I am ready. Shyanne will sometimes go play after she finishes or she will sit at the table and do a quiet activity while we continue working.

We then work through the remaining subjects and they can go pretty quickly as long as everyone is in a good mood… normally we can finish our work around lunchtime and then we have the afternoons off to finish our chores and have a little free time.

This may not work for everyone but I know a lot of people wonder what a four-day week looks like and this is how it works for us. We may make changes in the future but that’s part of the beauty of homeschooling… you can change the schedule to work for you!

God Bless!
