Growing Children of GOD: Intergrating FAITH Into Our Homeschool

In a previous post, I mentioned that I am trying to integrate more FAITH into our homeschool. I touched on a few things that I am focusing on for the month of January, but here is the full outline of what I am planning for 2026 and future years.

I am trying to ‘stack’ them with the monthly themes I have come up with for our family. I know that once we develop the habits of incorporating these ideas, then they will become like second nature.

Financial Literacy (January)

We work on our family budgets and get our Bills organized in January so it just makes sense to use this as a teaching moment for the kids.

Some ways we are doing this are:

  • Biblical Stewardship:
    • teaching financial principles through a biblical lens
    • emphasis on the fact that EVERYTHING we have belongs to GOD
    • learning to FAITHfully manage our resources
  • Budgeting & Generosity
    • researching what the Bible says about charity, giving to the poor, and tithing
    • creating budgets that allow us to give to others in need
  • Bible verses related to contentment, greed, money, and giving

Fine Arts (February)

We want our kids to know that you don’t have to buy things to show others how much they mean to you. Often, handmade gifts have more meaning to the recipient.

Some ways we are doing this are:

  • Art Studies:
    • Study sacred art and music
    • create art projects inspired by Bible stories or verses
  • Hymn Studies:
    • study hymns and music that appreciate the beauty of GOD’s creation
  • Research gifts and talents from GOD:

Health & Physical Education (March)

Things start to warm up in March, and we can really get active around the house and yard. This is the perfect time for some Spring Cleaning, so we can discuss the health benefits of maintaining a clean home as well as the importance of staying active.

Lent also starts in February of this year (2026) so this would be a good time to learn about that, if you desire.

Some ways we are doing this are:

  • Stewardship of our bodies:
    • research what it means to care for our bodies as ‘Temples of the Holy Spirit’
    • discuss how we can honor GOD through movement, moderation, and exercise
  • Sportmanship and Teamwork:
    • promote good sportmanship
    • discuss the value of teamwork
    • emphasize virtues like kindness and respect
  • Research Bible verses on cleanliness and staying active:

Science (April)

Nature is usually wide awake around this time here, so we get to spend a lot of time outdoors. This makes for the perfect opportunities to do some Nature Journaling. I also want to participate in the ONE SEED CHALLENGE on YouTube, so this would be a good time to get started.

April is also the month that Earth Day falls in, so this makes a great time to talk about stewardship of our natural resources.

Some ways we are doing this are:

  • Creation-based worldview:
    • look at science from GOD’s perspective as the CREATOR
    • study the complexity of the world around us, including the universe
    • check out some meteor showers during the month of April and jot down the dates for future showers, if this interests you
  • Stewardship of creation:
    • talk about environmental stewardship and conservation
  • Research Bible verses on taking care of the earth:

Foreign/Alternative Language (May)

May is a very busy month here that usually doesn’t see a lot of homeschooling lessons. We have already incorporated some foreign language into our usual lessons, but we use more American Sign Language (ASL) than anything else. This is a good skill as it can help others who may not be able to communicate otherwise. It is also a useful skill to have for family outings, as you don’t need to make a lot of commotion to communicate with another family member.

I believe that Pentecost will happen in May of this year (2026) so this is a good way to incorporate a quick lesson about that as well.

Some ways we are doing this are:

  • Loving our neighbors:
    • by learning another language it allows us to share GOD’s love with others who may not otherwise learn about HIM
    • it can also help us to show respect to other cultures as we learn about them
  • Global Mission:
  • Memorization:
    • have fun learning new Bible verses and songs in ASL!
    • find a good ASL channel on YouTube to learn from.

Community & Civic Responsibility (June)

Our children have a Morning Prayer that includes the phrase, ‘respectful, fair, and caring citizens of tomorrow’, and it is our responsibility as parents to make sure that they have the knowledge and tools they need to be the citizens of tomorrow. We need more young people to be the ‘salt and light’ in our communities.

June is also a somewhat busy month around here, but we can definitely find ways to help our neighbors and maybe even volunteer for some community events. We are generally finished with school by May so there may not be a lot of ‘sit-down’ studying, but we can definitely study ways to be productive members of society.

We can also work on ways to pray for others around us, for our leaders, and for the needs of our country.

Some ways we are doing this are:

Home Economics (July)

July is usually so HOT that we don’t want to be outside very much at all. This is a good time for us to start thinking about planning for Fall/Winter events. We can try some new recipes, make menu plans, and start a list of things to work on getting stocked up on.

Some ways we are doing this are:

  • Hospitality:
  • Contentment:
  • Generosity:
    • talk about ways you can use your cooking skills to bless others
    • ex: cookies for the neighbor, freezer meals for new moms, etc.
    • Luke 6:38, Proverbs 11:24
  • Other skills:
    • discuss other Home Economic skills that you may want to work on
    • Research about the Proverbs 31 Woman, list the qualities the verse describes

Digital Technology (August)

August is the month when a lot of families are getting ready for the new school year, we have usually gotten in a bit of schooling before now. This is usually a busy part of the Hurricane Season here in Florida so it is a good time to talk about using Digital Technology in a responsible way.

Some ways we are doing this are:

  • Use for GOOD:
    • learn how to be safe and responsible with technology devices
    • learn how to find Bible Studies, and Christian education resources
    • John 9:4, Matthew 12:36
  • Digital Citizenship:
  • Create Menus and Invitations for upcoming events
    • look at our calendar and pick an event to work on
    • make a pretty menu and invitations, if needed
  • Create Faith-Based Media
    • talk about our blog and YouTube
    • have the kids help create some new printables to share
    • make some new games, crosswords, or other activities

Homesteading & Preparedness Skills (September)

September can be a busy month, depending on how the Hurricane season has been acting. It can also be busy depending on the harvests from the garden. This is a good time to work on Homesteading and Preparedness Skills.

Some ways we are doing this are:

  • Trusting in GOD’s provision:
    • thanking GOD for the harvests that we bring in
    • talk about GOD’s faithfulness to provide
    • learn ways to preserve the abundance so it doesn’t go to waste
  • Sharing GOD’s goodness and generosity:
    • share our harvests with others
    • share our time and skills with others
  • Explore what the Bible says about Homesteading and Preparedness:

Language Arts (October)

We want to make sure that what are kids are reading can encourage them to develop the habits and traits that we would like to see in them. October is a month of transitions for us, and we are usually able to start incorporating more read-alouds and unit studies so this will be a good time to gather some Faith-Based reading materials for us to work through.

Some ways we are doing this are:

  • more Scripture-based copywork
    • helps with handwriting
    • memorization
    • grammar practice
    • language skill building
  • using the Bible as a textbook for the foundation of our lessons
    • study story structure
    • poetry
    • law, etc.
  • using thematic reading:

History (November)

November is a sort of short month for us as we begin our Holiday Prep with a Grace & Gratitude Homeschool Study, then Thanksgiving, and Advent Study. It is the perfect time to reflect on GOD’s creation and how Bible History overlaps with World History. We also like to read a biography or two about some historical figures, so we could definitely read about some ‘Heroes of Faith’.

We will also continue our studies on Biblical Feasts and encourage discussions about ways we can incorporate them into our upcoming year.

Some ways we are doing this are:

  • Redemptive Narrative:
    • teach history as a larger story of God’s plan, creation to new creation
    • show how World and Biblical history overlap
  • Christian Heroes:
    • read biographies of missionaries and other ‘Heroes of Faith’ to inspire our family with ways to trust GOD in difficult times
  • Research more about Biblical Feasts and ways we can incorporate them into our routines

Mathematics (December)

Yes, December is a very busy month. It may not seem like a good time to try to incorporate such a big subject, but is actually the perfect time for us as we do A LOT of baking and cooking. We have lots of big meals, so recipes need to be doubled or tripled, which makes a lot of math practice.

Our Advent Study already incorporates a lot of these ideas, so that makes this a lot easier!

Some ways we are doing this are:

  • recognize God’s design
    • explore patterns in nature
    • research the Fibonacci sequence as evidence of GOD’s consistent and FAITHful design
  • Stewardship in Practice
  • Bible Word Problems
    • incorporate word problems into your lessons, whenever possible
    • Check out these Mathematics devotionals HERE.

This is just an outline of some of the things that we plan to incorporate into our daily routines as part of our homeschool. We just want to keep the fun in learning and change things up a bit so that it doesn’t feel so boring to them. It also helps to keep us on our toes and refreshes skills that we may not have used in a bit. I may try to keep these topics in rotation and change them up a bit through the years, but having one main area to focus on a month should help in the long run.

It’s not a race, but there is a big goal ahead… our children’s futures are in our hands, and we must hand them over to GOD and ask HIM to guide us in the way we should go and show us what we should be teaching them.

What are some things that you would suggest adding to these lists?

We pray that GOD will bless you in all you do!
