It couldn’t wait…

Hello friends!

We are getting closer to the wedding date and it seems like we’ve had one thing after another.

First, it was the freezer after the hurricane… but then it started working a little better until it didn’t. It started making a noise last week and then it began thawing very quickly. We had water everywhere!

Just a couple of days before that our dryer started malfunctioning but still drying clothes… just being a bit tricky.

When we went to move the freezer out of the laundry room we found that the floors just were not going to wait any longer… ugh!!!

With just two weeks before the wedding we did not really want to rip out the laundry room but we didn’t have much of a choice.

After a major declutter…

Thankfully we were able to get it cleared out pretty quickly… so glad we had decluttered this room a couple of months ago. Then we began the process of pulling up the old and putting down the new.

It’s so hard to believe that they put new flooring down over the damaged floors but some people really seem to have no conscience!

We also took out the existing cabinets and the two old partition walls that really served no purpose. I will try to reuse the smaller cabinets but the big one was no longer usable.

The floors were removed so we could check out the supports… thankfully everything underneath was pretty solid. The new flooring went down pretty quickly… we were so glad that we already had it stored away for this project.

We also removed the walls that were damaged … we also found that one wall had been replaced before so we were able to leave that one… I didn’t get a good picture of that as we were trying to get it all put back together so we could finish up for the weekend.

One nice surprise was seeing that the duct work actually extended back to this room even there we don’t have a vent in here… we may add one in the future though!

We pulled off most of the batten strips and pounded in nails and staples to get it ready to mud this coming week. Mr Awesome also made a new panel for the hot water heater and he is devising a plan for the wall with the panel box.

(You may remember that we had to have all of that replaced back in 2021 and we just never got around to repairing the wall.)

It already looks so different and the floors feel so good. It feels so much bigger and lighter without those little walls too!

I do plan to eventually move the laundry out to the porch but I want to reconfigure it a little in here when we put everything back together. I bought a longer drain hose so I can rearrange in here a little bit.

We had a dinner planned for the next day… nothing like seeing how big of a mess you can make and cleanup in one day!

I also need to decide on a paint color. We have a bit of recycled glass and a bit of sea salt. This is a small room and I had really envisioned a pale yellow but I’m not ready to really worry about decorating as this room may change a bit when we get to redo the master bathroom.

Alpaca is the color we have through the rest of the house so I may just stick with that for now… what do you think? Let us know in the comments below.

Since there was a small portion of the floor that didn’t need replaced we will probably paint the floors similar to the kitchen floors until we get ready to replace all the floors … that will be a little while still. At least painting them will make them match a little better with the floor in the other parts of the house.

Baby in Bloom Baby Shower Pics and Life Update

Well, it’s actually about bedtime now. I have a monster of a headache. We did get some more wedding planning done after the dinner. It seems like we are pretty well on track with most things.

The yard work is a little behind the schedule that I had envisioned but it’s getting there. We’ve had a lot of rain so it’s been hard to get a lot completed.

I decided to take off a couple weeks of school so we can focus a bit more attention to the stuff we need to finish up. We also had a friend come over to help cleanup some of the old appliances and scrap items… the old freezer went away too.

Little by little we are getting there. It’s definitely not quite what I had envisioned but it’s going to be great and we can’t wait!!

God bless!
