How are you doing? I’m praying all is well… everyone here is good. We’ve really enjoyed having a week of reflecting on our blessings, and eating outside was a hit with the weather being just right. We will definitely be observing Sukkot in the future and plan to make a few small changes in the future.
This week, we are taking a breather from school for ‘Life Skills’ as the gardens need a little attention and revamping. I’ve had a vision for part of the garden, and we’ve been working on making it a reality. We haven’t had to buy any materials as we have been repurposing some things that we already had on hand. I am contemplating the purchase of some fencing for the garden, but seeing it come together makes me second-guess that idea.
You may remember the Pallet Gate project that we did a bit ago… this is another baby step towards the goal! We put together a small raised bed just enough to allow the guys an edge to weed eat and maybe save my chives… lol.
I didn’t know how I was going to get enough dirt to fill it in, but thankfully, we had just enough compost that we had made earlier this year! It was still a little chunky, but I’m not too worried about it. We then mulched and stomped the weeds down in the beds, staked the plants that were still going, and mulched the beds really well with some pine straw that the kids gathered up.
I gave the old wood chips a little bit of attention with the rake and then watered it all in really well. The kids also removed all the old garden stakes, and we repurposed the trellises for a new hoop bed… it is going to be so magical!
I really wanted to fence in the sides of the garden so that the chickens could just be turned loose in there when it was time for a reset, but now I’m thinking I might just use the electric netting, as it is nice having wide open paths to bring in mulch, dirt, or whatever else we might need to bring in! What do you think?

We still need to plant these new beds, which will probably happen later this week, as I just planted some other beds last week… we don’t want to have everything ready at one time during the winter. What crops do you plant during the winter?
Here is a video about our trailer to coop makeover too:

One not-so-fun thing that happened was that our dryer went out… thankfully, I had already purchased some retractable clothes lines and Mr. Awesome had already helped me put them up, so we were prepared! We had already been using them quite a bit, and they seem pretty sturdy, so I’ll leave a link down below for them.
Update: unfortunately one of the kiddos yanked on one of the lines and it came down in pieces… half of that assembly is still up and working fine. Beware if this happens though because the metal coil is sharp and it will cut you… thankfully I didn’t get hurt too bad but I was glad it was me and not one of the kids.
I still love these but I am looking to put an in-ground line up soon. I am looking at one like this HERE.
We pray you have a blessed day!
God Bless!
