If you saw the updates to the previous post, then you will know I was having a hard time making a decision about which calendar to use.

Both of them had things I really liked, the vertical one was easier to find a place to put and I really liked the layout.
The horizontal one had a lot of the holidays, Biblical Feast days, and lunar phases marked on it as well as things like the first day of Spring and such. I was having a hard time deciding where it would fit and the colors were a little bright. I really wanted to make this one work for us.

I surprised myself by going with the vertical one. It just made more sense for the space we have right now. I was able to transfer the dates over to it pretty quickly and I like that it is so easy to read.
I did fold the top down and the bottom up to keep a little space below for the littles magnet area. I’m not crazy about the fact that it doesn’t lay flat but maybe it will straighten out over time.
I used some colored sticky flags to write appointments and special events on. Then I used some small colored dots to mark the birthdays, anniversaries, Full Moons, Biblical Feast days, and other important dates. I also wrote a key on the calendar so everyone knows what the different colors mean.
I’m sure it will take a little bit for everyone to get used to this new calendar but it will make life so much easier. I have been kind of ‘stuck’ having my calendar on the kitchen wall as that is where we had our home phone located. However, we no longer have a home phone so I can easily move to where the calendar is to check dates.
I also like that it is right by my bedroom door so I can see it first thing in the morning. One glance and I am reminded of things that will be happening today, tomorrow, this week, and on.
Others can see, at a glance, if we have something important going on before they decide to have a get-together. Also, our older kiddos can check the calendar when they visit so they can see what they might want to attend and make plans for future visits.
This can also help us ‘stack’ family get-together with some of the special feasts and activities that we have planned. This helps make memories and creates new traditions that they might like to share with others.
I have also included some clips with a pen, sticky notes, and sticky flags. That way others can make a note to stick on the calendar for me. If an appointment changes we can simply move the sticky flags… don’t worry, I’ve written the dates and times on them and I have them in my online calendar, just in case someone plays with them.
I know that we could just use our online calendar, but some people forget to check it before scheduling things and sometimes internet service can be spotty which cause delays in getting it to load when we need it.
I’ve also seen some new digital calendars that look really sharp, but I’m sure that they come with a monthly or yearly subscription fee… that is something I really don’t need more of.
I think I want to research a dry erase calendar to use for next year… I like things that can be reused.

I found this one HERE that is similar to what I’m wanting.

I’m also utilizing my planner that Mr. Awesome bought for me last year. I didn’t realize/forgot that I could’ve been using it since last July… oops!
I’m using it to keep track of blog posts that I have scheduled, important dates, and menus. I’m sure there are and will be more that I jot down in there but right now it is a handy spot to just ‘dump’ the random ideas in my head and keep track of things I need to add to my to-do list.
I hope this might inspire you to start a calendar or planner to make your life a little more peaceful. Part of my morning routine includes checking my calendar which keeps me from rushing around so much because I forgot something important.
Where do you keep your family calendar? Let us know in the comments.
God Bless!
