We had a great time watching the Solar Eclipse even though we didn’t experience totality. The kiddos did their Morning Circle Routine and then watched a couple of lessons about the eclipse. Then they had a quick lunch as they were so excited to get out and watch for the eclipse.

We all grabbed our eclipse glasses and spent most of the afternoon outside and in the garden. Even the chickens came out to enjoy the day for a bit. I wasn’t able to get any good pictures of the eclipse but my son got some nicer ones… I did get a picture of the rainbow or sun dog which we weren’t expecting!

I’ll share some photos… probably an overload but it was such a nice day.
Here is a slideshow of the original set of beds:
These may get moved after the growing season so we can consolidate all of the gardening into one spot… not sure yet but it is a thought. These beds may become a greenhouse… these storage totes have been going strong since 2022!
These are some pics of our newest garden area. We did manage to get some deer netting up to help keep the chickens out… some of them still manage to find their way in though so we just have to keep an eye open at all times. We don’t want a repeat of what they did a couple of months ago!
We found that we had accidentally propagated some new blackberry bushes when we were mulching… YAY!
We also added some new archways to the entrances!

I had tried out some garden fencing to make a ‘run’ for the goats along the front fence but our crazy billy keeps tearing it down and spoiling it for everyone else because he starts pruning the fruit trees! The bigger geese have been happy to use it though!

The little geese were weeding the one side of the garden… until they decided to nibble on the corn. You wouldn’t believe how much fertilizer two little geese can make! We should have more baby geese hatching soon!
I had asked the kids to bring the old umbrella and stand… they brought me a table and chairs as well. This is now situated in Momma’s garden and I think they made a great decision bringing this to the garden. Now we just need to make a new top for it but I have been using a couple of scrap pieces of plywood to make a place to set plants and such… 🙂

I’ve added some more mounded beds since these pictures were taken as well… Mr. Awesome saved me some backache and a couple of days’ worth of work by using the tractor to bring the dirt to the garden. I’m hoping to create a ‘secret garden’ space for me.
Here are some of the new decorations… in case you missed them in the slideshows.

The red bells were at the flea market… got them both for $10!!!! The signs were at Aldi and I think they were about $5 each… so cute! I also found a dragon fruit, papaya, and a pomelo at the flea market. Don’t you love the chicken? She goes well with the previous flea market find… a scrap metal rooster.
It was such an AMAZING day and Mr. Awesome got a good picture of us… these are the kind of memories we look forward to making more of!

The kids had Capri Suns and Milk Ways for an evening snack… I forgot all about them earlier in the day… lol.
Now I’ve got to head out and check out the gardens as we’ve had some pretty intense storms today… I’m sure that some areas are probably a little wet so I’ll put on my rain boots… this will be a good time to do some transplanting! (I also got some more perennial seeds in… SHHHH!!)
We hope you enjoyed all the pictures and God Bless!
Just for reference, here are some before/after pics to show the progress we’ve been making:
Everyone has to start somewhere and we hope that these pictures can inspire and encourage someone out there to take the first step towards whatever project you have been dreaming of!
