Join us tomorrow for Day 1 of our Devotional for Estranged Family & Friends.
Dear Heavenly Father,
I come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, knowing that You are merciful, powerful, and able to restore what seems completely broken.
Lord, I lift up my family, my friends, and every relationship that has been damaged by hurt, misunderstanding, anger, pride, bitterness, distance, or unforgiveness. You know every heart involved. You know the words that were spoken, the things left unsaid, the wounds no one else can see, and the circumstances that brought us to this place.
Father, wherever there is spiritual darkness, oppression, deception, temptation, or anything drawing us away from You and from what is good, I ask You to break its influence. Let the light of Christ expose every lie and replace it with Your truth.
Your Word says:
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world.” — Ephesians 6:12
Help me remember that people are not my enemy.
Guard my heart from bitterness. Keep me from returning hurt for hurt, anger for anger, or rejection for rejection. Give me the strength to forgive, even when reconciliation has not yet happened. Show me where I need to repent, apologize, change, or make something right.
And, Father, please work in the hearts of those who are estranged from me.
Soften hearts that have become hardened.
Heal hearts that have been wounded.
Calm anger that has been carried for too long.
Remove pride that keeps people from reaching toward one another.
Expose misunderstandings and bring truth where there has been confusion.
Where harmful words have taken root, uproot them. Where assumptions have replaced communication, bring clarity. Where fear has built walls, replace it with courage and love.
Lord, go into the places I cannot go and do what I cannot do.
I cannot change another person’s heart—but You can touch hearts.
I cannot force forgiveness—but You can cultivate mercy.
I cannot manufacture reconciliation—but You can open doors no human being can open.
If there are relationships You desire to restore, Father, prepare both sides for that restoration. Do not merely bring people back together; heal what caused the separation so that what is rebuilt can be healthier, wiser, more loving, and firmly grounded in You.
“And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers.” — Malachi 4:6
Lord, I especially pray for families that have been divided. Restore communication between parents and children, brothers and sisters, husbands and wives, grandparents and grandchildren, and friends who once loved one another deeply.
Where years have passed, remind us that no amount of time is beyond Your reach.
Where circumstances appear impossible, remind us that nothing is too hard for You.
Where someone has said, “Never again,” I pray that You would still leave room for grace.
But Father, give me wisdom as well. Teach me the difference between reconciliation and enabling harm. Let restoration come with truth, repentance, appropriate boundaries, forgiveness, and genuine change. Help me entrust the outcome to You rather than trying to control it myself.
Protect every person I am praying for. Surround them with godly influences. Draw them toward Your Word and toward people who speak truth with love. Silence lies that encourage hatred, hopelessness, vengeance, isolation, or permanent division.
And if I have contributed to any broken relationship, search me.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts.” — Psalm 139:23
Show me anything I need to surrender.
Take away my pride.
Take away my resentment.
Take away my desire to prove that I was right.
Take away the temptation to keep reopening old wounds.
Give me a clean heart and a right spirit so that, if You open a door for reconciliation, I will be ready to walk through it with humility.
Father, I surrender every estranged loved one to You.
I surrender the conversations I wish I could have.
I surrender the apologies I wish I could hear.
I surrender the things I wish I could explain.
I surrender the memories that still hurt.
I surrender the outcome.
What I cannot repair, I place into Your hands.
Fight the spiritual battles I cannot see. Bring freedom where there is bondage, truth where there is deception, peace where there is turmoil, forgiveness where there is bitterness, humility where there is pride, and love where hearts have grown cold.
Let Your will be done in every one of these relationships.
And while I wait, keep my own heart tender.
Help me pray rather than worry.
Bless rather than curse.
Forgive rather than rehearse offenses.
Hope without trying to control.
Love without abandoning wisdom.
Wait without losing faith.
I believe that You are still working even when I cannot see evidence of it.
“Behold, I make all things new.” — Revelation 21:5
Father, make new what has been broken.
Restore what should be restored.
Heal what needs to be healed.
Remove every influence that keeps us from You.
Turn hearts toward You first, and then, according to Your wisdom and will, turn our hearts toward one another.
May the story of these relationships ultimately become a testimony—not of what human effort accomplished, but of what Your grace, mercy, forgiveness, and love can do.
I place every name, every face, every memory, and every broken relationship into Your hands.
In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
