I recently read this article from another blogger and it has some really good reminders in it. Especially the one about fruit seeds as I have a child who I am constantly reminding not to eat the apple seeds. I will normally use an apple slicer to remove the core before letting him have one as a snack. You might find it interesting to take a peek at this article for yourself:

Stop The Itch Cream
I know we are almost to the middle of November and it seems like mosquito bites should be over with for a bit, but not here in Florida. This past weekend was the beginning of hunting season and I spent most of my time out in the woods.
I had forgotten to take along the bug spray but it was quite chilly so I didn’t buy any on the way either. That was a big mistake!
We found a game trail and decided to check it out. Not long down the trail I was attacked by mosquitoes and bitten several times near my right eye. Ughhh…. that really hurt. Not to mention it was quite ugly and itchy.
Upside down cake
I like the idea of using the raisins instead of cherries…. this would probably work with my Pineapple Upside-Down Cake recipe as well.
This is supposedly pineapple upside down cake but as you can see there are more raisins in it than pineapple (because I love crusted raisins, that’s why!). And yes, I use raisins instead of maraschino cherries for two reasons: 1) cherries are expensive, 2) it’s only me who’d be eating the cake if it’s cherries that are in it. Speaking of costs, back home home when I was a kid, I’d often wish my mom would used tinned pineapples when she made upside down cake (I thought that was posh)–but it was cheaper for her to buy fresh pineapples and boil them in syrup!
As you can see from the pictures below, this is an easy recipe–no need to caramelise the sugar (‘learned this from my mother). Just sprinkle the demerara sugar on a greased tray, arrange your raisins and pineapples (I could not be bothered with presentation as this…

Happy Veteran’s Day
I just want to take a minute to say Happy Veteran’s Day to everyone!
Early Morning Visitor
This morning started out kinda gloomy and a bit chilly. I was headed out the door to the wash shed when something strange caught my eye.
There were the ducks and the squirrels down by the pond but there was something else too.
He? saw me and I stopped and watched as he tried to hide. He calmly walked to the trees and nestled in between them.
I laughed a bit as he was trying to be as inconspicuous as possible in hopes I couldn’t see him. Reminded me of my kids sometimes… lol. I felt a bit bad as he didn’t realize he had nothing to fear from me.
I stepped in to grab my phone and he stayed right there. So calm and peaceful. Then he went back to his business of catching some breakfast and I went my way as well.
My surprise visitor changed my whole morning and it was like someone had sent me a little message just for me.
