Silver Fox Squares: November 2017 Update

Susie @ Pollywog's Place Blog's avatarBlack Creek Squares Dance Club

What a great month! We have had several wonderful dances at our new location.

You can find us on Fridays at the First United Methodist Church at 200 N. Walnut St. in Starke.

We held our first dance there on October 6th. We had some special visitors from NEFSARDA who joined us as we presented toys to the Basketball Cop. The toys had been collected at the 5th Saturday Dance in

September.

Then on October 13th we held a special Friday the 13th/Black Cat Dangle Dance. We had Mr. Ellis Lindsey as our guest caller. Some of the dancers dressed in costume. We had a great time dancing, to our favorite callers, with Yoda, a Devil, a Police Officer, and a couple of cute cats.

The ladies in Starke were ‘Pretty in Pink’ on October 27th in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A great time was had by everyone…

Dollar Tree Finds: 10/20/2017

Its took me a few days to get this post written but I wanted to share a few neat things I found at my last trip to Dollar Tree.

My littlest ones are still really into dinosaurs and all of them are so artistic it’s complete craziness here sometimes. Right now we have crayons, markers, scissors, glue sticks, and paper all over the table and floor from their latest projects. I probably have enough artwork to fill a museum… some of these masterpieces will eventually make it to friends and family.

I try my best to restrain myself when I walk down the ‘teacher’ section but I was super excited when I spotted these iDRAW dinosaur books with step by step instructions on how to draw so many different dinosaurs. Then I was almost doing a little happy dance to see that they had a few other versions like sea life, jungle animals, horses, and such. The kids are going to love these and I am hoping to incorporate them into some of their art classes while we homeschool.

There was also a Learn to Recycle kit that I picked up. I think this will work well as we are learning about the earth right now. If I don’t incorporate it into the Science lessons I’m sure I will find a place to use it as a teaching tool and they will have tons of fun doing this activity.

I found a few stickers to use on their projects as well as some jewel toned stickers. These stickers will, hopefully, be used to mark the countries and places we are ‘visiting’ in Social Studies. You can see more about this here. The kids are having a blast with this study so far. We have visited Great Britain and Spain with plans to visit France next week. (Our trip to Greece has been delayed as I haven’t received the Highlights kit yet.)

I’ll keep checking back and bringing you new items that I find to use in our homeschool.

Happy Homeschooling!

Southwestern Produce Company

Update:

We have been using this company for over 2 years now and we love them even more than we first did! This is a great way to stock up on healthy options and save money too!

This is a company I had recently heard about and really wanted to try. Well, this past weekend we did pick up our order of veggies and I will say that I am very pleased!

I’ve been really busy this year and we didn’t put out a garden so being able to get farm fresh produce was a real treat. It looks just as good as if I had gone to the work of growing it and putting it up myself. Best of all the freezer is pretty well stocked for the next couple of months and hopefully, we will have enough frozen veggies to supplement the fresh ones I find until we can place another order. Don’t Rob Others of Their Blessings!

We’ve all heard the expression ‘It is better to give than to receive’ but what about when we are the receiver and not the giver?

I was once told, by an old preacher, that I should always accept things that are given to me. He told me that if I refused these kinds of gifts I may be robbing the giver out of a blessing.

Whoa! I had never looked at like that but now I do and I try to be as thankful as I can for everything even critical remarks and comments. I definitely don’t want to be considered a thief.

Just Because: Not My Birthday Present

I’ve recently updated this post and we have since passed this Keurig on to a friend and went with a bigger option as we both enjoy our morning coffee and although I am not drinking as many k-cups as before I love the hot water feature for my Dandy Morning Coffee and instant oatmeal.
