Last Harvest for 2025?

I’m a little sad… we have a cold front headed our way and that means the gardens will soon be saying their farewells for this year.

I know everything has its seasons and I’m looking forward to next season as it should be better than this one but this one was so beautiful in so many ways.

We’ve learned a lot and I’m grateful for that and we’ve truly been blessed. Hoping you all stay safe and warm..: God Bless!

Creative Ways to Use Leftovers

We don’t like to clean out the fridge because sometimes we find things that have been forgotten about. I’ve tried to leave a few ‘FREE CHOICE’ and ‘PANTRY CHALLENGE‘ days on our Menu so that we waste less… actually nothing truly gets wasted as any old food will go ot the chickens or the compost pile.

Most of the time, our ‘leftovers’ become lunch for the next day. We will often portion them out in individual containers so people can choose their meal.

If we have some veggies that look a little sad, I will often chop them and put them in the freezer. We will freeze extra meats as well, for later use.

November 15th is National Clean Out Your Fridge Day … probably so you can make room for all of those Thanksgiving goodies! Some of these recipes can help you use up some of those Turkey Day Leftovers as well.

Here are some of the ways that we like to use up some of those leftovers:

Main Dishes & Casserole Dishes:

Chicken Pot Pie

Daddy Can’t-Wait Casserole

Easy Bean Tostadas

Chicken Salad Tostadas

Chicken and Dumplin’ Casserole

Chicken Bacon Avocado Wraps

Chicken Pillows

Easy Chicken Casserole

Poppy Seed Chicken

Super Easy Rotisserie Chicken Salad

Soups and Stews

Goulash

Mom’s Oven Stew

What are soem creative ways that you use up your leftovers?

Special Holiday Meals: Polar Express Party

Everyone looks forward to this party at our house every year! It does take a little work and planning, but it is so WORTH IT!

We try to make some homemade gifts to give out as Christmas gifts to our family and friends… usually food. We also have some fun games and lots of yummy treats to keep us busy until the Polar Express starts! Then our living room turns into an interactive Movie Theater… so much FUN!

Making Memories: An Afternoon Tea Time Menu Ideas

We want to create special memories, and my kids enjoy having tea time. Shyanne didn’t understand the concept of a make-believe tea time for a good while, but she likes having the real thing. We like to try out different teas, and we have been growing some of our own herbs for teas.

You can cut the regular sandwiches into small shapes for ‘finger sandwiches’ and make or buy a variety of cookies, cakes, and other treats. Check out our Hobbit-Inspired Menu for some ideas.

The conversation should be positive and productive, and it can help teach proper social interactions. Set the table with some pretty dishes and cups… maybe even buy some that are special for this event.

Getting ready for the event shouldn’t be complicated, and everything doesn’t need to be homemade… if you make it too hard, you won’t enjoy it, and you will be less likely to repeat it.

Let the kids help plan the menu and themes, and have them help prepare the treats. HAVE FUN!
