Kirby’s Kids Grade by Grade Homeschool Reading List

**This post may contain affiliate links to some of the products and resources that we have used. These are provided at no extra charge to you and help to support our blog and family if a purchase is made through these links. -Thank you!

Here is a list of books that we will be reading with our homeschool. I will update the list as we go through this journey. Many of these books can be found at your local library for FREE but I have provided Amazon links where you can find most of them ‘used’ for cheap. We also keep an Amazon list of books that we would like to purchase and sometimes they are gifted to us for Christmas and/or birthdays.

You should keep a record of the books read. You can do this in a notebook or using this printable HERE. (My kids like the plain ones so they can doodle around the margins but I may try to come up with a ‘prettier’ one later.)

I have also been using a lot of these books with some of the Novel-Ties Study Guides and other unit study guides that I have found online. I try to find as many FREE guides as I can but that isn’t always possible.

Remember that even though I have included Amazon links to these titles you may be able to purchase them used or at a different site for a better price. You may also have access to these books on your Kindle or other reading devices. Be sure to check back in as we will update this as we add more books to our own favorites here!

New School Year, New ABCmouse: ABC Mouse Upgrades!

**This post does contain affiliate links at no extra cost to you.

A few days ago I posted about why I (temporarily) quit homeschooling my kiddos. Things have been more than a little crazy here and we are still working on getting the house, and our lives, back in order. Progress has been slow but steady and I look forward to getting back into the whole ‘school routine’ shortly.

2025-2026 Homeschool Curriculum: Montessori Integration

One of the many programs that we use in our school routine, and almost every day in between, is ABC Mouse. I’m sure that you’ve seen numerous commercials on TV about the program and while I once thought that this was only something that ‘rich’ people could afford I was wrong.

The price is actually quite affordable and often times you can find special deals like the one you can get when you click this referral link below. They also send out deals via email for previous/current customers.

Benefits Are Priceless

I couldn’t see the benefits that the program had to offer because I was looking for something FREE. Yes, there are plenty of FREE programs but nothing quite compares to ABC Mouse and my kids love it. My special needs children need a lot of extra attention and sometimes they just ‘don’t get it’ when I try to explain things. When they use ABC Mouse it helps to fill in those gaps of misunderstandings and often they bring me their tablets to show me something that they’ve mastered and the look on their face is PRICELESS.

Rock N Learn: Preschool DVD

This is an older post but we still use these DVDs a lot and the kids still love them… especially little Miss Shyanne! They have other sets too and these are a good investment for kids whether you use them for homeschooling or just to help them with learn new skills. We have more homeschool resources sprinkled throughout the blog and you can find lots of FREEBIES here.

Homeschool Resources

Rock N Learn: PreSchool** is just one out of a whole series of DVDs that we use regularly in our house. This particular DVD is geared more towards 2-5-year-olds, or preschool. My 14-year-old son, who is special needs, really enjoys this DVD as well. Continue reading “Rock N Learn: Preschool DVD”

Pick-A-Trick Matching Letters And Sounds!

This is a product that we have recently started using in our home. The kids love it because it is a game but I love it because they are having fun while learning!

I have taken some pictures of a few of the different activities and features on the game. I bought this from Lakeshore Learning. My wish list is long, very long but I try to wait until I find a coupon code or a sale and use them to my advantage. They have a lot of products for just about every homeschool style/need you may have.

This first pictures are just the front/back of the case. You can see the basics and the skills that are targeted with this game.

These are pictures of the lesson. It goes through the alphabet and gives them a basic introduction to the Uppercase and Lowercase letters.

Once they finish with the lesson they can choose an activity to do:

This is Lowercase to the Uppercase activity. There are instructions to play in the beginning too, if you need them.

Once they have completed three rounds they can choose a trick for the bear to do.

The 3 year old got a little impatient but he enjoyed getting through his lesson to see the trick.

This is on the 2nd level and matches the Uppercase to the starting sound. This is an area where my DS14(special needs) really needs help.

He helped the 3 year old with this screen. They took turns back and forth. Teamwork is important too!

This is a feature that I really like. I can print out the report to put into portfolios and to help me see the areas they may need more help with.

All in all my kids are really enjoying this and they are learning. It is important for us to incorporate a variety of different activities so each child is eager to learn.

I hope you enjoyed this product and I will continue to post about other products and activities that we are using.
