By the Shores of Silver Lake Adventure: Language Arts Lesson Plans

These are divided into weekly work as we like to use Loop Scheduling in our home. We simply work on a little bit and then move on to the next subject area. We have four days of ‘school’ and then the fifth day is used to finish up projects that we have been working, for independent study, or fun activities and field trips. Have fun on your Little House on the Prairie Academic Adventures!

Here are our Lesson Plans For Language Arts

These lessons were made to go along with ‘By the Shores of Silver Lake‘ written by Laura Ingalls Wilder. We are planning to go through the whole series and I am keeping track of the different topics we are learning about here on my blog. We hope you enjoy these as much as we have! Get A Little Peace Of Mind When You Get A Berkey

Meet Our New Berkey (1).png

I just love Facebook, don’t you? I would NEVER know about anything going on around me if it weren’t for social media… well, I’d know a lot less because I usually have friends who can keep me informed of important happenings as I don’t like to watch the TV.

I would probably not learn about many things though and some of them might be a good thing to not know about but the article I read this morning was something I definitely wanted to be aware of. There has been a confirmed case of Legionnaires’ disease in a city near us.  I might now have found out about the toxic baby food either if it weren’t for FB.

After doing a little research I am feeling much better about the whole situation although I am still praying for the person(s) affected by it. I am thanking GOD that we were able to buy our Berkey system earlier this year as this is one more thing we can worry a little less about! Our Berkey will definitely be making the move to our new house with us.

You can read more about the history of Legionnaires’ disease and its name HERE.

Life Update: Dentist Appointments, Bread Store, and New Glasses

This post actually started out as a different post but it got so long that I broke it down and decided to share this part of it with you today!

Things have been SO CRAZY BUSY here lately… I can’t tell you about everything we’ve been up to but I will let you know about a few things we have been doing down below. We are so excited about EVERYTHING that is going on and we just can’t wait to SPILL THE BEANS with EVERYONE!

For now, though I’ll tell you about some of our latest adventures here in our little cabin.

A trip to the movies

We took them ALL to see the new Lion King and it was so GOOD! My oldest son was a HUGE Lion King fan when he was little… and I believe he may still be very partial to the original but my younger kids only knew about the new Disney version of the series.

Here’s a trailer for it if you haven’t seen it yet:

Getting Kids To Help In The Kitchen

myAvatar (1)Mommas, I know how things can get when you let the kids help out in the kitchen. They get underfoot and you have to repeat things over and over again and again. In fact, many times things seem to go faster when you don’t let them help but trust me, you want them to help just as much as they want to help. In the long run, it will be beneficial to everyone if you can get them in the kitchen as soon as possible! Continue reading “Getting Kids To Help In The Kitchen”

Made From Scratch Monkey Bread

My kids love monkey bread and they love helping to make it! Check out the slide show for some pics:

It’s so easy and those cute knives help them feel like real chefs will easing my mind. Those mixing bowls have been a life saver too and the lids make them perfect for this recipe. I can’t always find the 4-pack of canned biscuits (and I’ve been trying to make more things from scratch) so i have used our regular biscuit recipe at times. You just need to divide the dough into 1 inch balls and continue on if you decide to do make your own biscuit dough.

As you can see from the last picture, it goes really fast around here… so fast I didn’t have time to catch a picture of the whole thing! Continue reading “Made From Scratch Monkey Bread”
