Everyone’s Favorite Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls

This may not be one of the easiest recipes on my blog but they sure are delicious! My oldest son requests these every time he comes home so we really try to make them happen. They are a favorite ‘go-to’ for special days and we recently had them for breakfast before the latest baby shower. We also had them for breakfast before the wedding last year.

Forgive the cover photo as I used leftover icing to ice these with… I’ll try to get a better photo the next time I make them 🙂

This is a multi-step process and need a little preparation but they are so worth all the extra effort! These can make any day a special day and we often have them on the mornings of special holidays or events.

Ingredients:

Dough:

  • 5 c.  Flour (If using self-rising flour you can omit the next 3 ingredients)
  • 2 c. shortening or butter
  • 2/3 c. sourdough discard
  • 1 1/2 – 2 c. Buttermilk (you can use regular milk and add 1 T. Vinegar)
  • 1 ½  t. salt
  • 2 T. honey (optional)

You can wait and add these right before baking but I usually add them while I make everything else… adding it later will help them to be extra fluffy!

Making Memories: A Simple Winnie the Pooh Themed Baby Shower with Recipe Links and Printable Games

Whew… what a crazy month July was. We were rushing to get our house remodeled. It seems we always have some big project before a big event. Everything turned out great though and we were blessed to have so many family and friends come to help us celebrate the new arrival… he should be here ANY DAY NOW!

It’s starting to feel like home….

This past week, we got the house back in order and got all of the decorations packed away until the next event… we did make a rule that baby showers/weddings need to happen before May 31st or after September 1st… it’s just too darn HOT here! Our poor ACs can’t keep up with the heat, especially when the doors are constantly opening/shutting, but we survived so it’s all OK. What isn’t Ok is last month’s electric bill!!! That was crazy and the company keeps going up and adding charges on top of regular charges… it is just completely ridiculous!

It’s starting to feel like home…

The past couple of months have been so stressful. It started as a long-awaited master bathroom remodel that had to be put on hold due to an unexpected emergency with a family member. This emergency meant that we needed to focus on other areas of the house… things that we had planned to do in the future- after the bathroom.

Another project took over so that we could create another room in the house and it is finally finished. There are some touchups to complete and I know there will be some furniture changes in the future but it is finished for now… at least until after the upcoming baby shower.

I’ve been wanting to put a wall up between the breakfast area and the den for long time. I created a wall and separated the area in so many ways over the past few years that I felt confident that a wall would be beneficial. You can see some of the many ways that this space has changed HERE.

Transform Your Garden with Trellis Beds

I love that I can come up with an idea in my head, put it down on paper, and Mr. Awesome can make it come to life! He has done this time and time again… just AMAZING! My Ube plants were going crazy and starting to take over the greenhouse so I needed to make a place for them to grow. I didn’t have a lot of money to put towards this as our bathroom really needs attention so we spent less than $100 on materials and I scavenged the scrap piles for materials.

While this isn’t exactly as I had planned, as we couldn’t find the lumber I had planned for, it is pretty close and just as AWESOME. I wanted a couple of beds for planting as this area is close to the septic and I didn’t want to take any chances with contaminated food but I also wanted to screen the backyard a little bit as we have a couple of sheds in this area. The solution was two trellis beds with a cattle panel arch to act as an ‘entry’ to the backyard area. It may also prove to be a pretty backdrop for pictures!
