We made it through January! I sometimes find it helpful for me to see what posts and resources we have used over the past little bit and to see what other people have been looking for as well. Here is a quick round-up of just those things from our blog this past month.

Shared Bedroom Makeovers… Two become three
As many of you already know, we bought this house and it has already been well-loved. It was definitely in need of some TLC… a bit more than we had realized at the time but we’ve been making improvements as time and budget have allowed.
We had a lot of hopes and dreams for this house when we first moved in but there were so many issues that happened and had to be dealt with that we just had to focus on those. Plus the pandemic had just started, we were dealing with an unexpected high-risk pregnancy and then a stressful premature birth with a NICU stay and other complications, and then when we thought things were getting better we were sidelined by an unexpected leukemia diagnosis.

It’s one of those dreary mornings. I’ve been up since way before my alarm as little miss decided she needed a drink and then she decided to steal the back off of the remote as she attempted to turn on her favorite show, Miss Rachel. I couldn’t go back to sleep as she was very squirmy and then my mind was thinking of a few of the remodeling dilemmas we’ve been facing.
I was anxiously waiting for daylight so I could outside to do some storm prep as we have been having some very strange weather here. Many areas around us have actually closed school for the day in anticipation of the severe weather this afternoon. Little Miss has an oncology appointment this afternoon and I’m waiting to see what the weather does as I really don’t want to reschedule it. I’m also hoping the weather doesn’t get too bad as I’d like to stop at the second-hand store on the way home to see about a shelf they had advertised. It looks like it might be perfect for the hallway and I am also looking for a cabinet to use as a linen cabinet.

We’ve been pretty busy around here lately.

We’ve added some garden beds to our yard… thanks dad!

Fruit fly traps
You need:
Old spice container
Dish soap
Vinegar (ACV or homemade fruit scrap vinegar work best)
Directions:
Tape off all but a couple of holes in the lid.
Fill the jar about halfway with vinegar.
Add one drop of dish soap.
Put the lid on the jar.
Place in area where fruit flies have been seen and wait.
Empty every 1-2 weeks, or as needed.
You can also use an old cup with a lid and a straw that has been cut in half.
Place the vinegar and dish soap in the cup.
Put the lid on.
Secure the straw with tape so that it is suspended above the liquid.
The flies will get in but won’t find their way back out… just make sure to label it so no one gets curious and takes a sip… yuck!
