I’ve been trying to write this post for a couple of weeks now but it seems that we’ve been getting hit with one thing after another around here lately.
My heart has been breaking over the pictures and stories from the aftermath of Hurricane Helene… I know that Mother Nature throws us curve balls and we can’t possibly prepare for everything that could happen but we really need to try to have the basic supplies on hand for whatever emergency might come our way.
Just wanted to pop in here real quick to ask everyone to please pray for all of those in the path of this major storm.
It’s quite scary looking and although it’s only a Category 2 at the moment it is forecasted to be at least 3 and possibly a 4 at landfall. The storm surge is being called ‘unsurvivable’… not something I’ve heard before.
Landfall is predicted to be sometime tonight… exact area is still unknown but everyone is preparing for its arrival.
There are multiple areas that have been under mandatory evacuation… these places have never had this happen before so this is telling us a lot already.
The calm before the storm.
Our area will be on the east side of the hurricane which is called the ‘dirty side’. This means that we will feel the effects of the wind and rain but we will not have a direct hit.
Some forecasters are predicting that the outer bands will be just as devastating as the hurricane itself… quite a scary thing to think about.
The rain that this brings will cause massive widespread flooding. Florida has been getting a lot of rain already so the ground is saturated which means we may lose a lot of trees as well. This means there will be widespread power outages.
There are likely to be lots of tornadoes as well… these are not very predictable and can cause massive damages. Many counties have already had tornado watches and warnings.
This hurricane is also predicted to head north all the way up towards TN… I can remember the effects we had from Hurricane Hugo (Cat 5) when I lived up that way and it was pretty bad then.
This storm is HUGE and its impacts will be felt all over the southeastern United States… please be sure to get your supplies ready NOW and evacuate if you need to … don’t wait!
Please take just a moment to say a prayer for everyone in its path.
We had such a crazy week preparing for the wedding this past weekend… it was beautiful and amazing! We definitely couldn’t have done it without the help and support of our family and friends… thank you all!
We don’t have a lot of pictures to share yet but I will share some when I can… I can’t wait to see them.
Unfortunately, a lot of the pictures were missing or lost somehow… I guess we should’ve had a backup person taking more photos.
I was so busy I didn’t even get to take many pictures at all. We did find a site, weduploader.com that gives you a QR code so that guests can upload pictures that they take… it’s pretty neat!
This first photos didn’t load properly so I’m trying again…
This week we are super busy but I wanted to give everyone a little update. We made it through Hurricane Debby with only a bit of damage… mostly to plants and fruit trees. We’ve been cleaning up lots of limbs since the water has dried up a bit.
