Special Holiday Meals: George Washington’s Birthday Menu 

President’s Day is the day set aside to honor George Washington’s birthday. His birthday is February 22nd, but it was voted to move the official holiday to the 3rd Monday in February to create a 3-day weekend. It is better known as President’s Day thanks to retailer sales.

This is a good day to talk about George Washington and our past presidents.

George Washington’s Birthday Menu 

Dinner 

Oven Stew or Chicken Pot Pie 

Stuffed Mushrooms, Spinach Dip w/Crackers 

Corn Pudding, Carrot Souffle, or Butternut Squash Medley 

Hoe Cakes w/butter ‘n’ honey 

Dessert 

Cherry Pie or Cherry Sonker w/ice cream 

Or  

Chocolate Pie w/Meringue

LOVE is our theme of the month, and we are working on learning ways to show LOVE other than just telling someone that we LOVE them. Our kids have brainstormed some fun and budget-friendly ways to show LOVE for others. We want to learn to create memories without spending a fortune.

Stocking Your Emergency Pantry

We don’t like to think about the possibility of any emergency, and definitely not one that might last for an extended period of time. With Hurricane season fast approaching, we do need to give it a little thought.

When we first moved here, I was totally unprepared for the two hurricanes that hit us back-to-back. We had not even had a chance to get to the grocery store, but we made it through with what we had. Fortunately, we are a little better prepared for emergencies now, but something could always take us by surprise.

Special Holiday Meals: Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday Meal

While Abraham Lincoln may have had many favorite foods, this is a menu that we came up with to make this day a little extra special, as he was an important part of our history. He was a simple man who preferred water over any other beverage, and it is said that he often had to be reminded to eat. I think my family history can also be traced back to him at some point.

Oyster Stew w/crackers ** or Chicken Fricassee 

Roast Pork Loin or Pork Chops

**We will be having Potato Soup in place of the Oyster Stew as we have a couple of people with seafood allergies.
