Household Routines File Set Up: Getting Started

Hey there!

If you haven’t read the post about the overview of our file system then you may want to check that out first. I’ll try to get it linked here:

To get started you need to figure out what you want your day to look like so you can set up your daily routines.

You may find it easiest to break you day up into morning, afternoon, and bedtime routines. You can find more information about setting them up HERE.

Household Routines File Set Up: OVERVIEW

It’s that time of the year when we start thinking about resolutions for the New Year and many times they involve getting things to run a little smoother.

I’m going to share with you a file system that we had set up a couple of years ago and we still refer back to it every now and then or when things seem to have gotten a little off track.

We had a similar system set up many years ago and it really helped me get my house in order. We felt like we were always running behind and never getting caught up but our routine system helped us get and stay more organized.

I recently heard that routines have been proven to help you be more productive and less stressed as they lessen the number of decisions you have to make on a daily basis… it definitely helps us!

Routines for the win!

Our routines keep us organized and reduce the amount of stress we have daily… Why not give it a try?

Make sure to start small and don’t try to overhaul your whole schedule at once… just a little at a time and don’t be afraid to make changes as needed to make it work for you. Even if something seems a little unconventional it might just be the right solution for you.

Here are some great places to start:

It’s that time of year again for us… time to get the next school year planned out. We finished up our 2023-2024 school year before Easter and I’ve been busy gathering supplies and making schedules as I coordinate with everyone for vacations, holidays, and special trips that we have planned.

It is always SO TEMPTING to take a few months off to just focus on this house but I know from past experience that this doesn’t go well and that it takes FOREVER to get a couple of the kids back into the school routine. You can read more about last year’s curriculum and routines HERE.

We switched to more of a Charlotte Mason-style approach and it was GREAT for the most part. We still have a couple of kids who just hate anything to do with math so that’s been a little challenging but we’re making progress. We’ve also really enjoyed using some of the FREE courses with Under the Home Homeschool.

Easiest Laundry Hack to Keep The Laundry Monster at Bay

This is probably not a hack but more of a little tip to keep those laundry piles from getting out of control or to help get them back under control if they get a little crazy. I’ve seen some crazy laundry piles and they weren’t pretty. Thankfully we haven’t had those and if we have it’s been so long that I can’t remember.

The easiest way to tackle a mountain of dirty clothes is to just get them washed! Don’t worry about sorting or any of that nonsense… just fill the washer, add some soap, and wash. Granted there may be some items that don’t come out looking as good as they should but drastic circumstances call for drastic measures sometimes.

We don’t have a lot of ‘special care’ items and if we do then they are kept separate from our normal wash. Most of the clothes that we choose to keep around are the kind that can withstand anything… and if they do get messed up the kids can just use them as play clothes or we can use ours for days when we have some messy projects to tackle.
