This weather has been wreaking havoc across the country, and our area has not been spared. Florida has been seeing some historic lows, snow, and some areas south of us have even been experiencing colder temps than we’ve had here at our home… CRAZY!!! The winds have also been pretty rough and have caused a bit of damage.
If you are looking for links to the garden products… go to the bottom of the post!
Then the groundhog said that there’ll be six more weeks of winter??? Well, we took care of that groundhog… just kidding, but we did have a good meal to celebrate Groundhog Day.
No matter how bad any situation may seem, there is always some good to find in it. With the cold weather devastating our gardens, now is definitely the time to go ahead and work on some of those new design plans that I had for the garden.

I am definitely researching some more perennial plants that can withstand brutal extremes with the weather, as we want our garden to start taking care of itself a little bit more. These are some of the fruit trees that I am looking to add soon:
- lychee
- star fruit
- more guavas
- canistelle
- Jaboticaba
I already have some of these in the greenhouse waiting to get planted out:
- raspberries- gold/red
- honey berries
- pink blueberries
- elderberries
- jujubes
- Miracle berries – these will definitely be kept in pots so they can be put in the greenhouse during winter
- peanut butter fruit tree – these may need a little protection from extreme cold, or they may be kept in the greenhouse during the winter
Some of my ideas are a little crazy, but they just might work. During this weather event, we also acquired COVID, so I’ve been binge-watching some of my favorite British gardening channels. I must say that Monty Don has given me courage, while Charlie Dimmock and the Rich brothers have definitely defined some of my ideas. This is one of my favorite episodes:
We have purchased a few supplies for our garden makeover, and I will list them below… many of them are not on sale right now, but the prices are still pretty good. We will need to redo the water setup that we had, as the freezing temperatures caused quite a bit of damage to it.

The weather is forecasted to be a little bit warmer, so I’m hoping that we can get these projects knocked out pretty quickly. We recently redid the greenhouse, and you can see that video here:
I also have some plans for a sensory garden. I’m not sure if it will be separated or just integrated into our other garden areas. Here are some ideas from Pinterest that I have found:

I do plan to integrate some of the cut trees into the play area, if at all possible. We do have some items on our Amazon Wish List, if you’d like to help with this project.
Lots of plans, as you can see, but only a limited amount of time, which always seems to run a bit short. Last year was crazy, and I had mentioned that we had a family with some health issues. Well, she is now home with us, and that means our routines and schedules have changed a bit, but I think we are all getting adjusted pretty well.
We thank you all for your continued prayers and support.
God Bless!

This isn’t garden-related, but I do need to mention this dog collar that we have purchased. It was recommended by another customer when I was trying to find a system after previously trying out (and returning) two other systems.

I love the idea of the stand and sieve for potting mix that you drive the wheelbarrow under. It’s brilliant. I’ll have to talk to the maker in the house.

Thanks, I’m definitely going to add this to the compost area this year.
