Have you ever turned on the oven to preheat, only to remember there’s a pan (or three!) hiding inside? Or started baking a beautiful loaf of bread and completely forgotten you were supposed to turn the temperature down?
Well, you’re certainly not alone!
Around here, there are always a dozen things happening at once, and sometimes it’s the simplest little reminders that make the biggest difference.
That’s why I created this handy Check the Oven / Turn Down the Heat Placard!
One Little Placard, Two Helpful Reminders
This simple printable has two messages:
CHECK THE OVEN! — A reminder for everyone in the household to peek inside before turning on the oven. Because nobody wants to discover a forgotten baking sheet the hard way!
TURN DOWN THE HEAT! — Perfect for those recipes, especially homemade breads, that require you to start baking at a higher temperature and then reduce the heat.
And let’s face it, when you’re juggling dinner, laundry, and everything else, it’s surprisingly easy to forget that one little step!
How Does It Work?
Simply print the placard on cardstock and fold it along the two off-center fold lines to create a little tent-shaped reminder. Or leave it open to slip over your clock area of the stove.
One end reads “Check the Oven,” and the opposite end reads “Turn Down the Heat” upside down, allowing you to turn the folded placard around to display whichever reminder you need.
Keep it somewhere visible near your stove, safely away from burners, oven vents, and hot surfaces. It’s especially handy near the stove clock or display, provided that area remains cool.
That’s it! No complicated instructions, fancy gadgets, or batteries required.
Sometimes Simple Is Best
I’m a big believer that homemaking doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes a little piece of paper can save you a whole lot of frustration.
Whether you’re baking bread, preparing dinner, or simply trying to keep everyone from preheating an oven full of forgotten pans, this little kitchen helper is ready to lend a hand.
Safety note: Paper is flammable. Keep the placard away from burners, hot surfaces, and oven vents. If your stove doesn’t have a safe, cool place for it, display it nearby instead.
Happy homemaking and happy baking!
