Midweek Update June 12,2018: Allergies, Blueberries, and Cornhole Boards

Quite an assortment of topics for this update. I’m sure I will add in a few others as we go along too.

Allergies

First on the list is the allergies. I try to be preventive and I spray the beds every morning with an essential oil concoction that contains Lavender. This usually helps but I didn’t spray when I made the beds yesterday and the grass was mowed in the afternoon.

I took a trip to the garden after the mowing and now I’m dealing with major allergies. (Last night’s fresh tomato sandwich was so good though.) I love the outdoors but they don’t love me. I seem to also have an allergy to bug bites, especially mosquitoes, after I was attacked by a swarm of mosquitoes last Fall.

Luckily the kids aren’t as bad as I am. Joey gets the sneezes every now and then. I’ve found that the generic Zyrtec helps us both when the Lavender isn’t enough.

And The Ants Came Marching In ….

Lordy, Lordy was all I could say when I got up yesterday. This was something my Mom-mom would say a lot about different situations.

I had been super stressed and had gone on ‘strike‘ over the weekend. As a result, the house was a mess. The kids had cleaned up a little bit but there was a lot that they had missed. There was stuff everywhere and what I mean by stuff was cookie crumbs, dirty clothes, toys, and wet towels to name a little. There was also sticky spots from jelly and sweet tea all over the kitchen.

The food and wet towels were like a flashing neon ‘Vacancy’ sign for the ants. The fact that we’ve been experiencing an extremely wet season doesn’t help either. The house had been invaded.  Continue reading “And The Ants Came Marching In ….”

Weekend Wrap Up: June 10, 2018

Hey everyone! I hope you are having a fantastic Sunday afternoon. We are not doing a whole lot of anything today, actually the whole weekend has been a whole lot of nothing. I know I wrote a couple of posts during the week that you can check out here and here. I also posted a yummy new recipe here.

What exactly did we accomplish last week? Not really a lot. I mean I did keep everyone fed and the laundry was finished, for the most part. There weren’t any cleaning missions partly because I had an extra ‘helper’ here, I’m not talking about big sister who was a tremendous help, who isn’t really a big help even though he tries to be. I decided against tearing apart anything to clean as it would most likely end up in a total disaster which is how I’d describe my house at the moment.

Smushed Taters

Oh, man are these good! I saw a recipe for something similar posted earlier in the week and had to give these a try.

I used some regular Russet Potatoes, which I cut in half, but I think they would be great with red potatoes as well. Continue reading “Smushed Taters”
