Midweek Update June 12,2018: Allergies, Blueberries, and Cornhole Boards

Quite an assortment of topics for this update. I’m sure I will add in a few others as we go along too.

Allergies

First on the list is the allergies. I try to be preventive and I spray the beds every morning with an essential oil concoction that contains Lavender. This usually helps but I didn’t spray when I made the beds yesterday and the grass was mowed in the afternoon.

I took a trip to the garden after the mowing and now I’m dealing with major allergies. (Last night’s fresh tomato sandwich was so good though.) I love the outdoors but they don’t love me. I seem to also have an allergy to bug bites, especially mosquitoes, after I was attacked by a swarm of mosquitoes last Fall.

Luckily the kids aren’t as bad as I am. Joey gets the sneezes every now and then. I’ve found that the generic Zyrtec helps us both when the Lavender isn’t enough.

Almost Mid Year Progress

Hey y’all,  guess what day it is… just kidding! It is a Wednesday here and that means the middle of our week. It is June also so we are not quite but almost halfway through 2018! Crazy, right? Where has time gone? I am sitting here enjoying a rare quiet moment as the kids are still sleeping. So many things are going through my head and there is so much to do. I’ve got some Chocolate Chip Muffins in the oven for breakfast, a cup of coffee, and a couple of delicious cookies from last night sitting here with me.

I’ve spent the last few minutes trying to figure out why my mouse wasn’t working. It was turned on and the red light kept coming on but my laptop wasn’t responding at all. Hmmmm….. then I remembered that I had put the little do-hickey thingamabog, you know the USB thingy, into my old laptop when I was working on the newsletter for our square dance clubs… duh! Silly me, but now it’s where it needs to be and all is good.

Cabin Fever

WARNING: This post is probably one of my whiniest, depressing, and just gloomy posts ever!

I think we’ve all heard of Cabin Fever but maybe you haven’t really ever had to deal with it. I know the term gets thrown around here and there but actually experiencing it is no fun at all.  It is described as:

cab·in fe·ver

noun

NORTH AMERICANinformal
noun: cabin fever
  1. irritability, listlessness, and similar symptoms resulting from long confinement or isolation indoors during the winter.

Well, this past week and weekend I have had a horrible case of it even though winter has passed. (I’ve also come down with a bit of a cold after taking the boys to the doctor and I haven’t felt very well.) It has been raining, raining, and raining like crazy and we’ve been stuck in the house quite a bit.

Then when we do go out we are usually headed to a dance and dodging mud puddles with dance shoes and crinolines on is not a whole lot of fun.  (I don’t really know why it has been so bad right now as I’ve spent many a week or more snowed in when we lived up north and I don’t ever remember dealing with Cabin Fever to this extreme.) Pi Day Party With Numbers Alive

As many of you may know this past Wednesday was ‘Pi Day’ as the date 3-14 represents Pi (3.14). We celebrated here at house with a Pi Party… lol… we had everyone bring their favorite pie, some people brought pizza pies, and we just had a great time. Our Party was a Featured Party opportunity from Tryazon. There were 249 similar parties taking
place last week here in the United States. Continue reading “Pi Day Party With Numbers Alive”

Drying Food, Farm Bingo, And A Trip To The Library

Yet another forgotten post. Just a reminder of how crazy our life got last year… I do enjoy looking back over these memories though! This was from October 2018…

We’ve had a busy week with drying food, farm bingo, and the a trip to the library mixed in with our regularly scheduled actitivites. These were just a few of the topics we covered in our second week of our Little House On The Prairie Academic Adventure.

Once again the kids are loving this adventure and it has encouraged them to learn so much and they are constantly seeking out answers to new questions they come up with. While this can get quite annoying at time, hey… I’m being honest…., I know that this is an important part of learning.

We started off by reading Chapters 3 & 4 in the Little House in the Big Woods. We always have a nice discussion after reading so the kids can ask/answer questions. They look forward to hearing more about Laura’s adventures in the Big Woods.

We are still working out of our Ray’s Arithmetic Books, and still working on fractions. The younger kids are working on some other activities in math and they love working with Spielgaben set too.  (I thought I had some pictures but I can’t find them.)
