New Year’s Meal

Well, 2017 is almost at an end which means we need to get ready for the New Year. Many families have a traditional meal that they serve and below is what we normally serve.

New Year’s Meal:

Brown Sugar & Honey Glazed Ham

Black Eyed Peas,

Greens

Hoe Cakes

Pineapple Upside-Down Cake

I’m not really sure what our meal is going to be yet, as we have been starting some new traditions here in the little house on the pond, but I’m sure it will be delicious.

Happy New Year’s!

A Special Christmas Treat

Ok, so I’m not entirely sure what the real name for this should be but this is the name we came up with last night. Papa D has been talking about this dessert that his Granny would make and how much he enjoyed it and would love to have some. The only problem was no one had the recipe nor did anyone know the real name for it.

When he explained it to me I thought it sounded similar to the Blackberry Dumplings my mom-mom always made. Yummmmmmmy! So for the past few months, I have been researching and trying to find this mysterious recipe. I’ve gone through some of my old cookbooks and then looked online too. I’ve found many similar recipes but nothing that seemed to fit what he was describing so I figured I’d just kind of ‘wing it’ and make my own recipe. Continue reading “A Special Christmas Treat”

Anybody Else Have The Day After Christmas Blues?

We survived Christmas! However the house is a complete wreck. I’ll post some pics below. This Christmas, actually this whole year, has been unlike any other before. That’s not necessarily a bad thing but it has been hard because we’ve been knocked out of routine so many times. However we always get back on track, eventually, and find our normal again. (Our normal varies from day to day with so many kiddos and their special needs.) Continue reading “Anybody Else Have The Day After Christmas Blues?”

Are Your Gifts Wrapped?

Can you believe it’s almost Christmas? Where did time go? It seems time just skips away so fast sometimes.

We have had a pretty productive day here, the most productive day in a while. I managed to get a new dust catcher made for Mr. Awesome’s saw. He had asked me awhile back but I just hadn’t managed to get around to it.

I think it turned out great. I also managed to sew the tail back on Jacob’s stuffed cat too. Continue reading “Are Your Gifts Wrapped?”
