I plan to incorporate a few of these into our normal homeschool routine to add a little fun and excitement to our days. I’ll update this page with ideas we’ve found as we go through the month. 2018 Mid Year Top 10 Blog Posts

I decided to celebrate the middle of the year with a look back on my blog’s top ten blog posts for 2018. Can you guess what they were? The results certainly supervised me!

So it seems that everyone really likes recipes and food as those post had half of the top ten spots. Of course we have to balance that out with holiday ideas, special promotions, and just good ole’ family stuff.

Anyway I just wanted to take a minute and say thanks to everyone for such a great first half of 2018. It really does mean a lot that everyone reads and follows along on our adventures.

Valentine’s Day 2018 Roundup

The past couple of weeks have been a bit rough around here. Mr. Awesome was sick and then the internet has been down for a bit. (I’ve been working on this post for a few weeks now but couldn’t post it.) Then my computer died… eek! Thankfully all seems to be better now and I am trying to learn the ins and outs of my new computer.

Our First Christmas Decoration For The Little House On The Pond!

I don’t know about you all but this Christmas has not went as planned here in the little house on the pond. We did manage to get a tree up but it hasn’t been decorated yet… and how many days ’til Christmas? I’m afraid to check.

The kids don’t seem to mind that the tree isn’t decorated as Nanny J let us borrow her fiber optic tree and it is so pretty! They also know that Olivia has wrapped some gifts to place under there as well. Momma hasn’t wrapped a single gift, yet, but I do plan to wrap some later today. Holidays and Ideas

Every year has four seasons, and each season has its own set of holidays. While homeschooling I try to take advantage of the holidays to research and teach my children about them. We have the flexibility to take time and study these important dates.

How We Homeschool: 4-Day Sample Schedule

Holidays or special days that were set apart for remembrance started way back in Genesis. We use a lot of biblical references and studies in our homeschooling so it is important to me to that my children learn about the true meanings and origins of these days. As a teacher I can also have some control over what they are exposed to as well.

Our Perpetual Meal Plans are full of special Holiday ideas and Meal Plans!

We don’t generally do an in depth study on any particular date. If the kids are more interested in one holiday then we may do a little extra. We can usually turn these into mini units and work them in with our regular school work. I will also leave out seasonal or holiday themed items for the kids to explore independently.

Ultimate Holiday Planning: A 12 Week Strategy

The key in our house is to keep it simple. We don’t have to decorate for every holiday. We don’t have to go overboard with learning about it. Sometimes just a brief discussion or a couple of YouTube videos is all we do. However there are some holidays that hold more importance here at our house. Christmas and Easter are two of those holidays. I have always wanted to try to do an Advent calendar or study so this year I am attempting to begin one.

I will try my best to keep this page updated and post resources that we are using as well. Please feel free to leave suggestions in the comments too.
